No. 14 Tennessee hosts the top-ranked Longhorns on ABC, and the noon kickoff is the only detail working in Texas’s favor. Neyland at night is one of the great nightmares in the sport. Neyland at lunchtime is merely very difficult.

A No. 14 ranking with a home game against the top team in the country is the definition of a season-defining opportunity. Win this and Tennessee is in the playoff conversation through November.
The Volunteers do not need to be better than Texas for four quarters. They need the crowd, a turnover, and one explosive play, which is exactly the formula that has produced upsets in that building for generations.
The Noon Kickoff Is a Real Factor
Ask anyone who has played there. Neyland with 100,000 people at 7 p.m. after a full day of tailgating is a different environment than Neyland at 12 p.m. with fans still finding their seats in the first quarter.
ABC scheduled this in the early window and effectively took a percentage point or two off Tennessee’s home field advantage. Texas should send a thank-you note.

That is four ranked-on-ranked games in one afternoon, which is the best Saturday of the season so far.
